The word comes from Sanskrit texts- Yoga means union, Nidra is sleep, and it collectively means union in sleep. It is not an ordinary sleep, and is also helpful in practising pratyahara or withdrawal of senses from the world. This sleep is specifically mentioned in the three ancient texts of Hinduism: Vigyana Bhairava Tantra, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Mandukya Upanishad.

Yoga Nidra retreat is a specifically designed programme for common people who want to re-create their joy. This program is always scheduled in a natural place, with a touch of the 5 elements of the Earth. There are both long and short retreats. How Yoga Nidra Retreat is Different from a Yoga Retreat in Rishikesh?

They can be a connected course or we can say an integrated one, but different in core practices. Yoga retreat courses focus on practices of Yogasana poses like Ashtanga yoga, Hatha yoga or Vinyasa yoga. On the other hand, the Yoga Nidra retreat is most of the time based on the deeper practice of meditation and relaxation techniques.
